October marked one full year since I moved to New York City, which is pretty wild. That also meant my annual review at work came around, and I got a raise which is always nice!

I also replaced my FitBit with a Series 4 Apple Watch… I got my first FitBit in 2012 and have used one almost every day since then. Leaving one app ecosystem for another can be a bit tough, but the transition wasn’t too difficult. So far, I’m really enjoying the capabilities of the Apple Watch and feel pretty good about the switch.

In the middle of the month Tia and I made a trip to Rochester for RIT’s homecoming. Caught up with some friends, watched RIT win a hockey game, saw Mayim Bialik speak, and just enjoyed being back in Rochester for a bit.

I also had to get my eyes re-checked because after a couple weeks with the new glasses my vision still felt off. Turned out that the first doctor’s handwriting was so bad, they mistook a 2 for a 1 and the lens for my right eye wasn’t strong enough. Doctor handwriting strikes again! Thankfully, Warby Parker is great - scheduling the recheck and getting the glasses replaced was really easy and free!

On with the data…

Productivity

Slight drop in average all productive time and I didn’t hit my all productive time goal at quite as good a rate as last month so overall I think I was a bit more distracted. Productivity pulse increased, but this could be due to less time spent on my computer and unlogged offline time, perhaps?

  • Productivity pulse of 75 (+1)
  • Met All Productive Time goal 13/22 days
  • Average 5h 6m (-3m) productive time per day

RescueTime Top 5 Categories:

  1. Software Development (34%)
  2. Communication & Scheduling (27%)
  3. Business (12%)
  4. Social Networking (7%)
  5. Entertainment (5%)

Correlations:

My most productive day has shifted from Tuesdays to Mondays, but only slightly and so it would seem the real trend is that I’m more productive at the beginning of the week, which seems probable. It would also seem that now that summer is coming to an end, I’m a bit more focused and productive at work.

  • I’m more productive on Mondays (23%)
  • I’m more productive when the day is cooler (16%)

Health

Little less sleep this month, and it feels like it. I also did spent well over my income this month, though that was planned. Tia and I booked flights for a vacation with her family to St. Maarten in February which we knew was coming up and I pulled from savings. Not fun to see spending that high but alas, here we are.

  • Average of 7,704 steps / day (+8.8%)
  • Average of 2,368 calories / day (-1%)
  • Average of 7h 8minutes of sleep / night (-3.2%)
  • Average weight of 141.8lbs (+0.6%)
  • Average body fat percentage of 11.9% (+0%)
  • I spent 104.9% of my income

Correlations:

Mostly strengthening of these relationships. I walk around more when I’m less productive, mostly because productive means sitting at my desk not moving. Caffeine correlations started showing up, and unsurprisingly I consume more caffeine when I sleep less.

  • I get more steps when I’m less productive (35%)
  • I consume more caffeine when I sleep less (35%)
  • I have more good days when I tweet less (22%) and when I sleep more (17%)

October’s Focus

  1. Start Christmas shopping

I did start shopping, though didn’t quite get started as much as I’d hoped to. A few gifts picked out though so, there’s that.

  1. Continue Running

October got pretty chilly pretty quickly, so I didn’t do much running at all. I am not prepared to run in cold weather so, this has come to a stop for the season, I think.

  1. Bake something

I finally used the KitchenAid mixer Tia and I got for each other last Christmas and baked a very delicious gluten free pumpkin cheesecake, which I will be making again for my office Thanksgiving celebration!

November’s Focus

  1. Decide if we’re renewing our apartment lease

We got a lease renewal offer, but they’re trying to raise the rent by quite a lot, so if we can’t negotiate them down we have to figure out if we’re going to move again or not.

  1. Finish most Christmas shopping

Last year I had most of my Christmas shopping done by Black Friday and it was pretty nice so I’d like to repeat that this year if I can.
